Prefab77

PREFAB77, a.k.a. Peter Manning, is a UK-based artist whose origins and influences span England, California, and New York.

Trained as a printmaker and designer for Her Majesty’s Armed Forces, his early work was steeped in British iconography; a foundation that would later evolve through time spent in New York’s fashion and branding industries. It was there that his fascination with portraiture and the female form took shape. A motif that remains central to his practice today.

Living on Elizabeth Street in Nolita during the 1990s, a period of gritty transition from street front squats to luxury storefronts. He became captivated by the layered urban landscape of tags, wheatpaste's, and posters. Works by early street artists such as Swoon, Faile, Obey, and WK Interact began appearing around him, sparking an epiphany that would become a lifelong creative calling.

His current work fuses these influences into layered, allegorical portraits; weaving elements of popular culture, religion, politics, and music into bold, fast, and hard-edged compositions. Each piece acts as a modern fable: part story, part warning, always beautiful.

A dark world of gangs, goddesses, and groupies, his work balances rebellion and luxury, rendered through a tactile blend of print, acrylic, spray paint, wheatpaste, and varnish.
